Hi there! I'm Kristin, and I'm so excited you've come to check out my Foodstuff Science curriculum.

This growing resource was designed out of the idea that with all the facts available these days, it'd be nice to have a science course & library of materials that is informative, relevant, and fun! And what other topic covers all three but FOOD?!

I've been interested in food systems for a long time, and have always liked getting outside to enjoy God's creation. (Growing up, my sisters and I used to pluck the flowers off the big patches of honeysuckle vine, and squeeze out the little droplet of sweet nectar. The smell of honeysuckle is still a springtime favorite!)

Aside from the fact that food is fantastically delicious with its millions of combinations of tasty flavors and textures, how food gets from "farm to table" is also fabulously interesting. Understanding how our food system works and where we fit in the whole scheme of things is something I believe we all need to have at least a basic knowledge in, because, let's be real, if we don't eat, we die.

So, who am I?
Well, talk about a loaded question, but here's some fun bits about me:

  • I have raised chickens from days-old chicks, but am in between flocks right now... The story of how I went from 15 to 0 is quite the adventure.

  • I want to live on a farm one day, and have goats, cows, chickens, and grow all sorts of things!

  • Favorite Foods (in no particular order... and we're not counting nutritious value): biscuits and gravy; salads with RANCH dressing; medium well hamburgers; chicken-bacon-sauteed veggies-cheese pizza; real ice cream; raspberries; colby jack cheese

  • I'm a voracious reader (books, articles, magazines), though I might be known to have multiple books going at the same time

  • Science Fiction is my favorite genre of movies/tv, though musicals are a close 2nd.

  • Bucket List Wish: Visit all 50 State Capitol Buildings (current score: 34 of 50)

Formal Education: I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies in the winter of 2012. And before that, I graduated from a very small private school with a graduating class of 10 students.

If I had been home schooled (which I wish I had been!), this is a science course that I would have wanted to take. I hope you'll join me in the journey of learning about the science of FOOD... how it grows from a seed and ends up making your brain light up with delight!
